Hypothyroidism

I mentioned before about a condition that is not well known to people. People may not even know that they have it either.

Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not make enough hormones. The thyroid gland is located in front of the neck just below the voice box known as the larynx. The thyroid gland releases hormones to control metabolism.

In most cases the symptoms of hypothyroidism before it is treated with the correct medication are;
depression, constipation, being more sensitive to the cold, fatigue, heavier or no menstrual period, and the main symptom unintentional weight gain.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and that was the first symptom i had noticed. Within the space of 3months i had the same diet and done the same activities but jumped from a UK size 10/12 to a UK 16. That is when i realised i had to see a doctor. And from a short examination i was diagnosed with potentially having hypothyroidism I was sent off for a throat scan which showed that i had the condition.

The only way to treat hypothyroidism is to have a wholemeal diet and take your prescribed medication, which for me is TS4 levothyroxine. I was shocked knowing i would have to take these for the rest of my life, so if you think you might have this unknown condition please see you GP/ doctor asap.
